The golf hole (second image) was created by starting with the building photo (first image), changing the hue and saturation of an area of the grass, adding a hole, and pasting in a 3D rendered flag.  My next alteration was more off-the-wall.  When the appropriate mood struck me one day, I spent lunch creating a spooky and stormy scene from the building photo by altering the image hues, (with a blurred region on the left that reduced confusion around my desktop icons).
